TREK Returns to Sentrong Paaralan ng mga Agta

As the group celebrates its 4th year, Trails to Empower Kids (TREK) returns to Sentrong Paaralan ng mga Agta (SPA) located at Brgy. Cozo, Casiguran, Aurora to bring Christmas cheers to its students on December 10, 2011.

TREK first conducted an outreach program at SPA last May, 2008. It was the group's second outreach program and they brought the students much-needed books and school supplies. Upon the request of head teacher Glen, they also brought a generator set, television and DVD player with educational disks. It was Teacher Glen's request that the SPA students be exposed to other cultures and tribes.

Sentrong Paaralan ng mga Agta is about an hour hike from the barangay center, which is about 12 hours away from Manila. The school does not use the same system we are used to due to limited resources, plus the fact that these students are not used to "formal" education. The agtas are generally nomadic people.

On December 10, TREK will come back bringing some more school supplies, clothing materials, food items and other items the students may need. This is now the group's 11th outreach following successful missions in Itogon, Casiguran, Tanudan, Pudtol, Subic Town, San Luis, Kibungan and Dilasag.
